Liste Art Fair Basel: ELZA SILE

Sep 20 - 26, 2021
Booth PZ
For LISTE 2021, we present a u-shaped sculpture, proportionally built to the booth's size. The freestanding sculpture is produced with aluminium sheets, attaining a laboratory-like appearance. The triptych's dimensions and structural simplicity divides the space into an inside/outside environment, which oscillates between negative and positive space; a front- and backstage. Placed at a distance of 150 cm from all sides of the u-shaped booth, the in-between area separates the sculpture from the architectural frame. Owing to the fact that this corridor solely reveals the white wall and the matt, semi-reflective aluminium surface, it allows for a spatial, proprioceptive experience, reallocating the viewer’s body and mind.

Upon entering the sculpture, the viewer may speculate of being inside a maze fragment or enclosed by a huge iron curtain. Alternatively, the freestanding triptych may indicate a valley, the shape of congress, a banquet meeting, or the tip of a dead end. The folded shape is morphing in its typology, incessantly forming new clusters of interpretations.

The gaze follows complex imageries, shaping unfamiliar networks, sculptural elements, which emerge and disappear. These experienced miniature correlations, such as the localization of the flow of analytical consciousness, reveal a phenomenological apperception. Familiar objects serve as entry points to establish a relative connection in language and perception. Hence, the viewer is invited to investigate this mind-space, revealing uncanny and familiar elements, and navigates itself into a subjective trip and a training program of reflection.
